38th helps Iraqis
take control
Story by Sgt. Vickey Jones, 38th
Military Police Company Posted: October 3, 2008
BAGHDAD,
Iraq
– During the 38th Military Police Company’s deployment to Iraq,
its Soldiers have been mentoring the Iraqi police and patrolling the
Baghdad
streets with them.
On September 20, Iraqi police marked another
milestone in the journey to work independently. The Karadah District
Iraqi Police began the first Iraqi Police Leadership Development
Course or IPLDC to be organized and instructed by Karadah District
Iraqi Police.
Iraqi police officer 1st Lt. Mushtaq Tariq-Jabar
and 2nd Lt. Salaam Labeen Abdul-Hadi are the instructors for the
class.
“It is something that is very good. It is
teaching us (Iraqi police) the importance of ethics, and is giving
us more of a foundation to work with. I learn more and more every
day,” said Tariq-Jabar of the class, and through an interpreter.
Tariq-Jabar and Abdul-Hadi attended a training
course given by Task Force 95 Military Police Iraqi Police Advisors,
prior to teaching IPLDC.
According to Tariq-Jabar the class is
beneficial to
Iraq
and its people. “I would like the Iraqi people to continue to
cooperate with Iraqi police, Coalition forces, and security forces,
so they can live safe in Iraq,”
he said.
Coalition Soldiers expressed their sense of pride
in their Iraqi peers. “You know that their hard work has paid off,
and you can see the confidence that has been gained,” said Staff
Sgt. Roy Shaver, a squad leader with the 38th MP Company, TF-95.
The company is headquartered in
Danville,
Ind.
and is in the eighth month of its year-long deployment.
