FORT DIX, N.J. - As the 38th Military Police Company training nears completion, the military policemen are a step closer to their departure to Southwest Asia.

The 38th, now at Fort Dix, N.J., is scheduled to depart early May in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Once there, they will teach, train and guide the Iraqi Police.

"Their mission is tricky and complex because they're working with the Iraqi Police and rebuilding confidence with civil authorities in Iraq," said Lt. Col. Andrew Lyons, the 72nd Brigade’s Training Support Battalion commander. Lyons mentored the MP company during its training at Fort Dix.

"They are hard-charging, very dedicated Soldiers and a very well supported unit," said Lyons.

The 38th Infantry Division commander, Maj. Gen. Richard Moorhead, saw that first hand as the company practiced interacting with Iraqis, portrayed by other Soldiers, in a mock-village on post.

"You can tell that if Soldiers aren't ready, that they'll be ready by the time leave here," said Moorhead. "The training is good to go."

Others agreed.

"I feel more secure knowing that they've been well-trained," said Karen Lucas, Family Readiness Support assistant.

Moorhead and other division leaders visited the military policemen April 15 and 16. The company is a subordinate unit of the 38th Infantry Division.
