much the same way during the June 2 events. |

INDIANAPOLIS – The 151st
Infantry Detachment (Long Range Surveillance) of the Indiana Army National
Guard’s 38th Infantry Division will showcase its capabilities on
June 2, with an airborne demonstration between noon and 4 p.m. at Freeman
Airfield in Seymour, Ind.
Airborne operations means the
sky will be filled with parachutes as Indiana Soldiers jump out of perfectly
good aircraft for no apparent reason on Saturday afternoon. The Soldiers will
also conduct rappelling operations out of helicopters (air assault operations).
“We will take this opportunity to show the citizens of Seymour a combat
equipment jump from a C-23 Sherpa, as well as one from a UH60 Helicopter,” said
Capt. Shawn Eaken, the unit’s commander. “In addition, I’ll have a static
display of the equipment a Long Range Surveillance Team carries during its war
time mission.”
The Long Range Surveillance
Detachment is moving to the Seymour National Guard Armory this summer and the
Soldiers want the community to see them in action and get a chance to meet them
face to face.
“The unit has enjoyed a long
history of working with and for the communities in which the unit has been
involved,” Eaken said. “We have every intention of maintaining that record as we
move into the city of Seymour, Ind.”
Seymour’s local flying club
will be on hand with refreshments and flying information at the airfield. The
Soldiers of the Seymour National Guard Armory will have additional activities
set up and hot dogs for sale. The public will be able to climb on a rock wall,
practice sumo style wrestling in Sumo Suits, and enjoy a variety of military
displays.
Saturday Schedule:
Airplane jump 1 p.m.
