Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, the Adjutant General for the State of Indiana, received notification that 41 guardsmen from 1538th Transportation Company are scheduled to return to Indianapolis Wednesday, February 28. The 1538th, headquartered in South Bend, represents Soldiers from Commands across the state. The unit spent one year in Kuwait and Iraq, completing security force missions and convoy escort duties. We are very proud of these citizen Soldiers and their families for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for the freedom of our state and nation. The Indiana National Guard is pleased to announce their return and hopes that all Soldiers of the 1538th will make a smooth transition back to their friends and families here at home. The media are invited to attend the homecoming at the 38th Infantry Division Armory, 3912 West Minnesota Street, where family and friends are expected to greet the returning Soldiers at approximately 6:00 p.m. All flights are subject to change due to aircraft availability, weather, and air traffic control measures.
