Indiana National Guard Unit Mobilized - Supporting the Global War on Terrorism
INDIANAPOLIS – Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, the Adjutant General for the Joint
Forces Headquarters, Indiana National Guard, received notification that 2nd
Battalion, 238th General Support Aviation stationed at Shelbyville, Indiana, is
being mobilized for active duty. The notification provides authorization to
order the unit to active duty under a Partial Mobilization Authority (Title 10,
United States Code-USC 12302).
Approximately 140 Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 238th General Support Aviation,
are ordered to active duty under the provisions of the Department of Defense
Directive 1235.10 or supplemental guidance.
Company C is a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) unit. Their mission is to provide
medical care and evacuation across the battle field. Pilots, crew chiefs, flight
medics, flight operation specialists, and supply soldiers make up this unit.
Company D is an Aviation Unit Level Maintenance (AVUM) unit. Their mission is to
provide scheduled and unscheduled UH-60 maintenance in a battlefield
environment. Blackhawk helicopter mechanics, structural repairers, avionics
repairers, and power plant repairers are some of the specialties in this unit.
These Soldiers will report to Fort Sill Oklahoma for mobilization.
We are indebted to these citizen Soldiers and their families for the sacrifices
they are about to endure. They are an indispensable part of the team chosen to
exhibit their skills in executing the Global War on Terrorism.
