Indiana National Guard to Assist in Snow Emergency

INDIANAPOLIS – Soldiers and Airmen of the Indiana National Guard are preparing to open armories to assist local and county emergency management personnel as well as local law enforcement.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security asked the National Guard to provide shelters for stranded motorists and assist in getting stranded motorist to the shelters. The Governor’s priority is for the safety of travelers on our roads.

Operation Blizzard Blast will open the following armories: Lafayette, Noblesville, Anderson, Remington, South Bend, Gary, Lebanon, Delphi, Rensselaer, Fort Wayne, Marion, Muncie, Huntington, Bluffton, Peru, Angola and the Fort Wayne Air Base.

The blizzard like conditions have the potential to strand motorist. Under direction of the Governor, Joint Forces Headquarters – Indiana Joint Operations Center has been activated to support the logistic and personnel requirements for the units activated. We will have approximately 200 Soldiers and Airmen on state active duty until the mission is complete.
