SFC Brown of the Bagram
PRT hands out dolls in the city of Charikar.
An Indianapolis
National Guard Unit is trying to bring more than peace to
Middle East: they are trying to bring joy to the children
there as well.
The 219th
ASG is deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan. They are into their
third month of deployment and already working on a project
to bring some joy into the lives of children they meet in
that war-torn country.
Together with
the Bagram Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), they are
collecting dolls to give to Afghan children. The goal is to
collect at least 1,000 dolls before May 1st. Many
dolls have already been received from the unit’s home state
of Indiana, as well as from all over the country, and the
distribution of them to the children began this week.
The soldiers
involved in the mission say that they have been touched by
the Afghan children and look forward to being able to bring
them a little bit of their own childhoods. They also hope
that the children and people of Afghanistan will come to see
a softer side of the American soldiers as they give of their
hearts and their time in exchange for a smile.
